I never, ever thought I would find a place that had BBQ food even close to my beloved Dinosaur BBQ in Rochester (now open in NYC!). Imagine my surprise when I found it in what is now my own backyard. If you are ever in up/middle-state Connecticut, you have to visit The Cookhouse in New Milford. While the atmosphere is very different than the Dino, on a good night the food is neck-and-neck. They even have fried okra and collared greens, two of my southern favorites that are hard to come by up north. My one complaint would be that you have to have your mashed potatoes with horse radish...no plain option.

The Cookhouse has a warm, homey lodge-like feel to it that I greatly enjoy...and that probably helps me get in the mood for massive amounts of BBQ. Who are we kidding, I can eat massive amounts of BBQ just about anytime.
